I think this is a common problem with these machines. I'm having the
same problem trying to boot from the install CD on a Power Mac G3
333. When I mentioned it on the list yesterday Donald Lee responded,
"Boy does that look familiar." I think it has something to do with
the machine's version of Open Firmware (2.4).
In another reply to my question Michael Wolfson said, "I have no
direct way of proving a lot
of the things the docs say about OF 2.4 systems." He's asked me to
do a little experimenting for him. Since he's listed as the NetBSD
Developer with the work areas of "htdocs, FAQs for port-hp300,
port-macppc, port-sparc, and port-hp700, and the Diskless HOW-TO,"
I'm hopeful we'll at least be able to figure out what is happening.
I'll report back to this list on our progress.
