To run the install kernel (and sysinst), use either 
  netbsd.ram.gz        (1.5.2) or
  netbsd-GENERIC_MD.gz (any snapshot)
instead of netbsd.GENERIC.gz

They are placed at following directories.
  /pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-1.5.2/macppc/installation/
  /pub/NetBSD/arch/macppc/snapshot/*/binary/kernel/
at ftp.netbsd.org etc.
