Funny you should say that (even if you didn't say what model PowerBook you
had).  On my PowerBook (FireWire) a.k.a. Pismo, PgUp causes the system to
panic.  I sent the trace to Tsubai-san, and he said that it's trying to
eject a PowerBook 2400 cardbus card.

On my system, this happens from the console, as well as within X.  I'll bet
if you just boot single-user it'll still eject your card.
