Aha! So there exists an OF machine that's not the 7200 but has a
601!

Was this 8200 a Europe-only thing, or was it marketed as a business
(rather than consumer) product?

Yep. We don't play nice with the 601 since it's pretty different
from the later 60xs and G3s.

It's not theoretically difficult to fix (not that I speak from
experience), but up till now the only machine (well, the only one I
get the impression most USA citizens knew of ;^>) that had a PCI
bus and a 601 was the 7200 line, which just made it seem like the
work wasn't worth the gain till some other kinks are worked out of
the port. (After there's 601 AND nubus support both, we can support
the first generation of PowerMacs, which would be pretty cool.)

Hrm. Maybe left the ethernet hardware in an unuseable state?
