I have submitted a patch for pkgsrc that adds support for PowerPC to MIT-pthreads.  Although that was several months ago, it still hasn't been added to pkgsrc.  Unfortunately, because of changes to the mit-pthreads pkg since I submitted, my patch is a little out of date.  However, I have had personal contact with two individuals who have gotten MySQL to work on macppc.  It would be nice if one of those people would post how they did it.  :-)
