All I'm looking for is a
firewall/NAT/router/apache/postfix/squid/Diablo box I can run here at
home, where I can also play around with whatever programming stuff
that interests me (including both systems and application
programming).
But if I'm going to have to work this hard to get only a
semi-working platform, I'm starting to think I'll either take the
486SX machine my Mom is trying to give away and run OpenBSD (it may
be slow, but at least it will be secure), or LinuxPPC on the PCI
PowerMac 7200/90 I've already got that I could devote to this task.
I personally don't care at all for Linux, but it's really
starting to look like it might be the only solution that wouldn't
involve bringing another machine into the house.
And here I thought that NetBSD might be my salvation, where both
FreeBSD and OpenBSD have failed me.

Unix is like a wigwam -- no Gates, no Windows, and an Apache inside.
Unix is very user-friendly. It's just picky who its friends are.
