Howdy,

Anyone else have a newer beige PMac G3/266 with Open Firmware 2.4?

Using a borrowed G3/233 (Open Firmware 2.0.1) I installed NetBSD 1.4
on an external 4.3 Gb quantum. When I went to use this drive
to boot NetBSD on the G3/266, it wouldn't work. I had various troubles,
but it was clearly not going to work.

I borrowed a ROM stick from another, earlier model, beige G3.
This ROM does not really match the 266, but it allows me to
boot NetBSD using this 4.2Gb quantom on which I had already
installed NetBSD.

With this "borrowed" ROM, it thinks the hardware is not what it is, and
it will only talk to me (in Open Firmware) on ttya, and so that's where
the console ends up. It runs NetBSD, though. I also have trouble
when I boot NetBSD because I have to power up, and then wait at least
60 seconds, or it won't boot.

I've seen a couple of other posts about this, but am still wondering
if anyone else has one of these machines. It appears that the run of
this ROM was very short, and very near the end of production of
the beige G3.

I've done the sup of current source, and am boning up on the innards of Open
Firmware. I've looked at the source of the boot floppy, and I'm
thinking about modifying it to work on a 601-based machine (my 7200).
I think I'd like to get it working on the G3/266 first - with
the correct ROM. ;->

Anyone have any thoughts for me?
