D'oh! No wonder the hard link to /bin/sh didn't work.
Ok I hard linked /bin/[ to /bin/test.
I saw the reference to test and thought I mentioned in my original
email the name of the prog I was running to test the problem, test.
See how much I pay attention. Thanks again for getting me on track.
