Apple Ethernet NB on my IIci does not work, and IIci gets panic
on reboot same as yours.
I've not seen about 1. nor 3. What is "a showstopper"?
Could you tell me (us) more detail about 3.?

My IIci works fine (with Asante or Farallon NIC) including X on 3.1.
