Why don't you use a CD-ROM drive for that?  Any stock SCSI CD-ROM will
do, as long as you use the right version of the Apple CD-ROM init
(sorry, I don't remember the right version right now, but it's a FAQ
that you'll find on any 68K MacOS site).
