I'm wondering if this is a ROM image issue. IIRC, Basilisk needs you to 
make a ROM image from a working Mac. I think they recommend a Mac Plus 
(and maybe even have some "links" to places you can get such a pre made 
rom image). Maybe the older ROM image causes Basilisk to believe and 
report itself as a non compatible machine to the booter.

Just a guess as I haven't tried it myself.
