i'd say 10 megs is the minimum. this is what i have, and the machine 
starts swapping as soon as i run something that's only moderately memory 
hungry (links, gcc, perl). i do run apache, sendmail and afp in the 
background without problems though.

get 32 and you'll be fine. it's cheap.
