Why do you need a serial console?
I have a PB 180 running NetBSD 1.5.3 without any problem.
I think that you only need more ram... I have 14Mb.
NetBSD will work OK in that machine.
To install NetBSD, you can Install via floppy drive, like I did, but It t=
akes=20
a lot of time and patience...
