I think this is a FAQ, but you might want to check that
you have an "/etc/localtime" that points to the right
spot.  For example, mine looks as follows:

/etc (71) ls -l /etc/localtime
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel  30 Oct 19  1997 /etc/localtime -> 
/usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Pacific
