I'm a little unclear what branch of the sources your current system
is on (netbsd-1-4?) and where you're trying to go (netbsd-1-5?
-current?).

No matter what, if you're out of date enough that your tools are
breaking building the source, the way you want to update your system
is by installing a snapshot, which are kept updated quite regularly
for this port.

Todd Vierling's (and other's, but mostly Todd) new toolchain is
designed to fix it, but the bootstrapping system hasn't been made to
work on mac68k yet (it will be, and then it won't matter if you're
running NetBSD 0.9... or, hell, SunOS 4.x, in order to build
NetBSD-current).
