Samba will work, sort of, for OS X, but not for OS 8.6. The reason I say
"sort of", is because I've already tried that. And from OS X, trying to
browse the Samba share with 566 files in it was incredibly slow. This
compared to connecting to the same share from my work laptop, a Win2000
machine, where the performance was acceptable.

Since I don't need to share these files outside my firewall, I'm going to
try using NFS.

Thanks for the reply...
