Yep, no problems at all. NetBSD works with all the old packages. You can 
remove this feature when you compile a custom kernel, but for the one 
you're using, they'll work wonderfully.

Yes, that way works wonderfully. If you would like another approach 
(which probably equals the same end result) to get another picture then

Since you can ping, but can't FTP, it sounds like you're behind a 
firewall. Briefly, unless you use Passive FTP, you cannot FTP when 
behind a NATing router.

Ensure that the FTP client uses Passive FTP.
