Well, it really isn't that simple!

Some Macs work better with NCR driver, some with the SBC.  But there is
a great variability in there, mostly due to individual disk drives!  I
would easily believe that individual drives are more important than the
Mac model itself in deciding between the two drivers.

At last check, the SBC driver still operated only in polled mode (rather
than in pseudo-DMA mode), so that could represent a performance issue.
Admittedly, my "last check" was more than a year ago, so this may have
changed.
