Subject: No GENERICSBC kernel for 1.5.2 -- why?

Hi,

trying to upgrade a Macintosh IIsi to 1.5.2, I saw that the newest patch
release only ships with one kernel. The IIsi has an old DEC DSP3107LS 1GB
harddisk, and while the GENERIC 1.5.2 kernel booted up fine, I found it
impossible to unpack the binary tarballs without data corruption. Building
an sbc kernel fixed that.

In fact, most or the disks I have used have at some point had problems with
the ncrscsi driver. On the other hand, I do not recall any harddisk
problems with sbc.

Now, I have enough machines around for "just building a customized kernel",
but others don't. Given how many times people with disk-related problems
have been pointed to SBC kernels by list members, I strongly doubt shipping
only a kernel with the ncrscsi driver is a wise move.

Comments? If I see none, I shall send-pr the issue.

	hauke
