theoretically localtalk should be possible for any machine with a
RS422 serial port capable of running at 230.4kbps. off the top of my
head, I don't know of any non-macs that even have RS422 (possibly NeXT?)
or if they have RS422, that are capable of doing 230.4kbps.

the x86 support is for ISA-based hardware, as far as I've seen -- hardly
useful in a mac. :)
NetBSD already has appletalk support -- doing localtalk should be
possible by plugging the serial layer into the network layer, unless I'm
missing something.
