I was offered a PowerMac 6100 for the same price, but they
pre-date Apple's use of OpenFirmware and won't run NetBSD.
RAM is cheaper for the Quadra, and the case is probably a
bit more roomy. Perhaps I'm also drawn to the Quadra 700
because I remember really wanting one when they were
announced back in 1991! :-)

That's great to hear! I've never run NetBSD on a Mac before,
but that's exactly what I'm after - something that runs well
in a sustainable way (ideally without drinking too much
electricity). Is the Q700 likely to work with the monitor
from my Mac LC? Is it possible to run the Q700 headless
(and keyboard/mouseless) once it has been set up to run
NetBSD?
Regards,
- Andy.
