Although I can't suggest the 1.5.x kernels yet, I can tell you that the
1.4.x kernels run very well on the Q700. I had a Q700 running NetBSD very
nicely for quite some time before I found a Q800 logic board (which fits
nicely in the old Quadra cases). If the price is right, I'd still say go for
it, as the Q700 is a nice little computer, definitely capable of light duty
on any network. As a bonus, the video subsystem on the Q700 is a bit more
flexible than on the Q800, Q650 and Centris 650. If you have enough vram,
you can even run a color X server. I've been running in high color for some
time now at 800x600. The problem with onboard video appears to be limited to
256 color mode?

Thanks, that's good to know.

What was the nature of the problem? I've been offered a Q700
at a bargain price, and I'm very tempted to buy the thing to
run NetBSD/mac68k on.
