The problem exists for some time (the last kernel that works for me is
1.4Q), see PR port-mac68k/11000. Essentially, internal video is not
attached during device probe.

Apparently Scott Reynolds has been able to reproduce the problem, but no
fix, yet. Looks like 1.5 will only run with serial console on at least
_some_ Quadra 700 machines.

What is the exact configuration of your box (RAM, VRAM etc.)?
