Hello again.
Well, I have NetBSD 1.4.2 up and running on my 575. Since I have it on a 1
gig external HD (actually using 750meg for NetBSD) I am entertaining the
idea of installing and using a desktop. I am not quite clear what is
typically used with BSD.
I have Unix for Dummys and a few other references. But they talk about CDE
and other desktops that I haven't seen mentioned with our OS. I have been
cruising around and don't see much mention of anything on this topic.
As an experiment I went ahead and loaded kde via pkg_add, off of the CD. I
am finding it's not as easy as just "firing up the desktop". For one thing,
I am in xterm, so I already have a windows manager running and kwm won't
start. That doesn't appear to be the only problem. I picked kde because "it
was there". (And I've used it with linux)
Understand I am not asking "which is best" (no holy wars please) so much
as "what is available and whats been your experience". For all I know
everyone who uses NetBSD shaves with straight razors, spits chewing tobacco
and find that desktops are for a lesser form of geek.
Also if anyone is using kde that would like to at least point me in the
right direction in using it (like: is there a config file or something that
sets up the desktop) I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks. I am going out looking for a new razor.....
