A friend of mine has a (PowerPC) DuoBook 2300c with 512Kb of
display memory. He has the choice of 640 x 480 x 256 (300Kb)
or 640 x 400 x thousands (500Kb) with a 40 line border top
and bottom (I've not tried playing movies on that yet ;o)
