Another problem is that older browsers and proxys do not provide enough
information for the server to determine that it needs to use a virtual
host (IIRC, a missing HOST header is the problem).  I don't know if they've
updated it (I hope so), but AOL's proxy used to not work with name-based
virtual hosts, and that's a large audience that you would potentially be
missing.
