this is all getting _way_ off-topic here, but...
at http://www.jcraft.com/jdxpc/ you can find a pure-java implementation of
DXPC (Differential X Protocol Compressor, it has the same purpose as LBX).
you should be able to make it work under MacOS, which would make X over
dialup/WAN approach useability... pity none of the MacOS X servers support
LBX...
