You might be wanting to take the -o out of the identd line in
/etc/inetd.conf (and kill -HUP the identd process).  Some irc
servers at least used to have problems with identds that reported
something other than "UNIX".

As others have noted, the identd included with NetBSD should be
RFC1413-compliant.  If it's not, there should be a bug filed against it.
