Ok, maybe I just misenterpurted this but, in the recent changes I saw this..

Manuel Bouyer completed major changes to the IDE support. It is now
architecture independent. Major changeshave been made to the IDE code for
better error handling, improved ATAPI support, 32 bit data I/O support and
bus-master DMA support on PCI IDE controllers.

That for CDRoms only? Or just doesnt mean what I want it to?

A Quadra 730?

Correct, Mkfs doesn't do IDE nor can it handle the second SCSI Bus. It
probably won't be updated to handle these since we're now on the road to
use sysinst.

Check in the 1.4.2_ALPHA snapshot area and grab the installation kernel.
It should do what Mkfs does for you from within NetBSD. However, the IDE
support probably isn't in the kernel. Last I heard it was still in
development for the mac68k port.
