Please try http://maclinux.plcom.on.ca/pub/kernels/vmlinux-2.2.6-19990517.gz
and tell me the DrSW and DrHW values it reports for the card (just use
'dmesg' to get the boot log). At least one person reports that his
SonicSystems card seems to get reported as a Farallon card, but otherwise
works fine.

We recently discovered, based on the Apple docs, that among other things,
Alan got DrSW and DrHW backwards when he wrote the original NuBus driver for
Linux, which caused a rather large amount of confusion for the 8390 Ethernet
driver. (Which is okay, because we needed to fix that driver, anyway...)
I've partially rewritten the NuBus driver, and it doesn't do that anymore.
But this means that now we have to figure out what the magic numbers in the
8390 probe code actually mean :-)

This kernel also has the ability to set CLUT entries on Toby and MFB video
cards as well as pretty much every desktop model's internal video chipset
(plus it can also change color and video modes on the Quadra 630 if you tell
it "video=valkyriefb:") so you can probably see the boot logo in all its
glory, and even run XF86_FBDev in proper 8-bit colour.

Cheers
