For BSD, I don't THINK there is a handy way to low level format a SCSI
disk. Your best bet is to mount it on another machine, or try to do it
from a MacOS install CD (if you have an Apple blessed drive, or a patched
version of the Apple SCSI util). That's what I had to do.
