???? What is this "Allen Briggs' FPU and the LC40 document"? AFAIK,
there's no such thing. The closest thing I can think of is my "LC040
and *BSD" page on Allen's Web server, www.macbsd.com, but it does not
tell you to install JNA's SoftwareFPU (although it does tell you that
it is one of the ways to determin if you got the broken LC040).

The LC040 does not hang your machine. Well, not usually. Can you try
a newer snapshot?
