the console driver is very slow.  it was written to work, not to be fast
:-)

i'd recommend using 'dt', which not only gives you much faster scrolling,
it also allows you to have virtual terminals, cut'n'paste with the mouse,
and inverse video.

you can find it on both ftp.macbsd.com and ftp.netbsd.org (and its
mirrors) i believe.  dig around in the mac68k area.
