I've seen that before.  You could recompile the kernel with the UCONSOLE
option and run xconsole so all console messages go to xconsole.

Another fix would be to have syslogd route messages to a file instead of
the console which is more secure than a kernel with the UCONSOLE option.
Syslog on my machine routes messages to a dot matrix printer (I try to be
fairly secure).
