No, it's 2^15. Since there are three colors, the number of bits used per
pixel must be divisable by 3. Apple uses 5 bits/color, using 15 of the 16
bits. The extra bit is either left un-used or can be used as an alpha
channel (for some visual effects), though I'm not sure how useful a 1-bit
alpha channel is. :-)
