I don't believe there is a way to do this using xmodmap.  It'll require
kernel or X server changes.

Hmmm...I'll have to look at the code when I get home, but I thought that
John had figured out a way around this one.  

John, aren't your non-emp mouseman patches in that kernel?

The simplest workaround for right now is to hold down the option key while
clicking the 2nd and 3rd buttons and it should do what you want.
