Ghostscript. I patched it years ago to deal with my Deskwriter. The color
one should be similar. Actually, the Paintjet will probably work out of
the box, but it has low-grade compression.

The ability to print text is why we now have default baud rates in the
installer. You can set up serial echo, and set the printer's baud rate to
be right for your printer. Then all the boot messages will be printed out;
no more trying to catch stuff as it scrolls off the top of the screen.
