i don't remember what the solution (if any) was, but:
my netbsd system lags severely in all respects (including the user
interface) whenever i ftp files through pppd (over the modem port). ftping,
i still get good transfer rates - about 2.5k/s. was this a software
problem or a hardware problem? was there ever something that lessened the
lag, etc?
if this is a hardware problem, and can't be fixed, would i have the same
problem (either with no severity or same as my current situation) ftp-ing
over ethernet?
thanks,
  - a
