I apparently spoke to soon.....
For arch/mac68k/dev/asc.c I get this, which is quite confusing to me
(currently looking for another ver of gas to try)

/tmp/cca31127.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/cca31127.s:304: Error: Rest of line ignored. First ignored character is '1'.
/tmp/cca31127.s:304: Error: parse error -- statement 'jne 1b' ignored
/tmp/cca31127.s:305: Error: Rest of line ignored. First ignored character is '1'.
/tmp/cca31127.s:305: Error: parse error -- statement 'jne 1b' ignored
*** Error code 1

Stop.

Any ideas? The gcc and binutils apparently aren't liking each other.
