ok when i rebooted just now, i got some stuff about bad values ffor local 
host, and a bunch of other things complained too...
heere is /etc/hosts:

just for kicks i tried pppd again, it just instantly returns not found, 
dip still works...hold on here...in /etc there is 
resolv.conf.down...hmmmm well, even if that is the problem, i still need 
help on setting up my machines name...
