          Puma is a list site that helps Mac-friendly Unix
          programmers gather information on the latest kernels
          (the core of Unix) that will work with various Macs
          (mine is a Centris 650 running the latest NetBSD kernel;
          netbsd.quadra is located at
          ftp://ftp.macbsd.com/pub/outgoing/briggs). MacBSD and
          NetBSD are forms of Unix that are being ported to many
          platforms. This flavor of Unix requires an AU/X
          partition on your hard drive. It does not run on top of
          Mac OS. It has its own OS that can be booted.

          This software can run MacX, which is a version of
          OpenWindows. (Don't be afraid of the Windows part; it's
          a graphical user interface for Sun SPARCstations.)

          This is the most valuable site I have ever run across.
          There is a major geek factor here, but it's a rush. The
          concept of a Mac (be it 68020, '030 or '040) being able
          to compile and compute, run and network the same
          software that a $30,000 SPARCstation can is
          inconceivable. High cool factor here, too.
