Okay, so this seems to be an FAQ, judging from the archives, which I just
grepped for 68851. I found a lot of references, but no solid answers.

I have a Mac II with 5 MB RAM, running System 7.1 with MODE32 installed. I
am installing NetBSD 1.2. I have Booter 1.9.4. For hardware, I have a
Radius Pivot II monitor and video card and an Asante ethernet card (no
network yet, just the card... 8).

So, all of the packages installed with no problems. I have an 85-ish MB
partition on my (abysmally tiny) drive devoted to NetBSD, with a 5MB swap
partition (probably going to be increased at some point-- I know, I need
more disk...).

When I run the booter, it gives me the "You need a 68020 and 68851 PMMU..."
error. ("Orange Whip?") I popped the case and took a look-- there's a
socket marked "68851" with a black Apple chip installed.

Now, is this some weird PMMU thing that doesn't work right? Does this need
to be swapped out for a real Motorola 68851? Or is there something else
that I'm missing? In the FAQ at
http://www.macbsd.com/macbsd/macbsd-docs/faq/, it mentions that "an HMU is
not enough." Is the HMU that black Apple chip?

All thanks to anyone who can clear this up definitively...
