There are several ways to resolve this.

1) Use a 1.2B (-current) kernel; GENERIC-12 and GENERICSBC-12 are the
   latest.

2) Use vt100 instead of vt220 in /etc/ttys.

3) Use the latest version of dt, making sure to compile it with
   GRF_COMPAT (I think that's the name of the option) defined.
