I've done this.  It's ugly.  It's a hack.  But it works, and to fix it the
right way will be a lot of wasted effort (but that's a long story that I
don't want to explain right now :-).

This is a "stock" monochrome server.  I'm still trying to figure out what
we're going to do about source distribution, though.
