The October 30th versions of netbsd.quadra and netbsd.quadra_dual behave
identically on my Quadra 950. Here is the log of the relevant-seeming
portions of the boot log plus a bit of context (copied by hand off the
screen, so apologies for any typos):

panic: cannot mount root

The probe of the internal SCSI bus is entirely correct and agrees with the
information returned by HDT Prober. I haven't yet repartitioned the drive
to have a UFS partition, so the panic is entirely reasonable.

Any idea what's up with the external SCSI bus? I've got two devices on it
-- a CD-ROM drive and an old 105MB LaCie Tsunami HD.

Hope this info is helpful/useful...
