The reason the program you run locally is the server and the programs 
running remotely are clients is because an XWindows server is a /display/ 
server. What it does is it gives the client programs access to display 
services. It's a bit confusing, but you get used to it after a while. :) 
It just gives programs access to graphic devices just like a fileserver 
gives programs access to files.
