odd.  That's not normal.  Oh well.

Before switching to multi-user, use vi to edit the file /etc/ttys.  Change
the "on" in the line that starts with ttye0 to "off" and change the line
for the appropriate port (tty00=modem and tty01=printer) to "on".  I
_think_ I got the port order right this time....  Oh heck, turn 'em both
on and turn off whichever one it doesn't say you logged in from.  Easiest
answer.

That's the cron daemon auto-syncing the disks to prevent data loss.
Happens every 30 seconds or so under most unices.  I assume the same is
true for NetBSD, though I've never actually checked.
