I used to workin a software hoyuse that made heavy use of Motif.  The
programmers there till me that the Motif API is not too far off from the
X API.  If your application makes only light use of the advanced Motif
features, you may want to consider merely PORTING it to X or Athena.

Probably others here with more expertise that can comment on the feasibility.
