What version of the kernel are you using? You must be using one of the 
kernels which actually supports color video.  I don't think that -current 
kernels include this support (perhaps they will in the next 6 months or 
so).  The kernel should be in the same directory as the colorkit X 
server.  Be careful, tho, I had some real trouble with conflicts between 
it and my ethernet card.
