Just to report my experiences here:

On my MacIIcx running current since about the time of the 1.1 release, I
have never seen "shutdown -r now" succeed. Same symptoms as described
above, i.e. a complete shutdown, but hanging instead of rebooting.

Shutdown -h does, however, work, i.e. it shuts down NetBSD and the takes
the power from the computer.
